Gulf War Missing in Action
January
17, 1991 - Iraq invades Kuwait on August 2, 1990. The United
Nations declares war on Iraq and 148 Americans were killed liberating
Kuwait and LCDR. Michael Speicher is still listed as a prisoner
of war (POW).
Speicher's aircraft was hit by an Iraqi SAM (surface-to-air missile)
and crashed during the first Coalition offensive of the war dubbed
"Operation Desert Storm."
