Why are you offering Medical ID Bracelets and Pendants?
People have been using the \"Customize\" feature on the Memorial Bracelets website to engraved medical alert information on a bracelet, as a low-cost solution to what web sites that specialize in Medical Alert jewelry were offering. To continue to help people who are trying to save money, we decided that in addition to offering just the Medical Alert icon, we would offer bracelets, dog tags and pendants with the medical alert symbol already placed on or engraved in the jewelry.
 
Does the color of the bracelet or dog tag symbolize anything?
There isn't any protocol that stipulates a specific color for any particular event or status for a Memorial Bracelet or Dog Tag. The color chosen is a matter of personal choice, although black is usually for someone who has passed away.

The color of a Vietnam War POW/MIA bracelet or dog tag however does have significance. The standard color for a MIA/POW bracelet is red and a KIA is black. Some people still follow this tradition. We have also designated orange for those disabled during their military service.

People order customized bracelets and dog tags in all of the colors available; however stainless steel and black are the two most popular choices for current KIA bracelets.
 
Why are the VOT Memorial Bracelets different in width from the Vietnam War KIA/POW/MIA bracelets?
Victim of Terrorism (VOT) Memorial Bracelets are made wider (5/8") to preserve the narrower band width (1/2") as a tribute to the original width of the Vietnam War Prisoner of War/Missing in Action (POW/MIA) bracelets.
 
How sturdy is the metal of the bracelets?
The colored bracelets are made of 1/32" thick anodized aluminum (the color is coated on electronically). It is scratch and tarnish resistant. The stainless steel bracelets are 18 gauge.

Both the aluminum and stainless steel bracelets can bend and break if enough pressure is applied or they are bent repeatedly in the same location.

Although the stainless steel is impervious to the affects of chlorine, the aluminum may dull and show white mineral deposits. Neither metal will turn your wrist green.
 
How do I determine the proper size bracelet?
Although a small bracelet will fit most children, a medium bracelet will fit most women, a large bracelet will fit most men and an extra large bracelet will fit most large men, the length shown is the length of the band. For cuff style bracelets, please add the 3/4 in or 19 mm gap measurement to get an idea of how big the actual circle is that will fit around your wrist.

Please remember that leather, paracord and ID bracelets will clasp, and that metal cuff bracelets will have an approximate 3/4 in or 19 mm gap between the two ends.
 
How will my jewelry be engraved?
We deep engrave the anodized aluminum and stainless steel using a rotary engraver. This cuts into the metal to let its natural beauty shine through. This process takes longer than laser etching, that just marks the metal, but we think it is worth the extra time and cost because the of the higher quality piece of jewelry that results from this process. The black letters on the stainless steel and brass are achieved by first coating the metal with a product called CerMark. Next, the letters are embedded into the metal using a high intensity laser. Where the laser hits the coating, the mark appears. Once the metal is marked, the letters will not rub or scratch off through normal wear.
 
How do I order multiples of the same engraving in different sizes or different materials?
After you choose the engraving you would like on your first product and place it into your shopping cart, click the Copy Engraving to Another Product link to order the same engraved message on a different Product, or with a different Color, Size, Icon, or Engraving Type.
 
How do I request a Supportive Message be added to the site?
If you would like a Supportive Message to be added, complete the Contact Us Form, click the Request a Supportive Message be added to the site button, enter your 30 character message into the field and click the Submit button. If accepted, your message will be available for engraving on both the top and bottom lines. You will receive an email letting you know if your message will be added to the site.
 
Why does it look like my credit card was charged?
When you attempt to place an order, your bank receives an authorization request for the charge from Authorize.net; your bank electronically confirms that the card number was attached to a valid account and verifies that at that time there were enough available funds to cover the requested amount. Your bank then reserves the funds and issues an authorization for payment. However, when your bank electronically cannot confirm that the billing address, (or some other information you entered) does not match what is on file with the credit card, the transaction is stopped and declined. When this type of mismatch occurs, the reserved fund authorization stays active (and subtracted from your available balance) until your bank removes the authorization following the decline--this sometimes shows up on you online statement as a charge when in fact the money never left your account. It sometimes take 2-3 days for this to reverse depending upon your bank. However, a phone call to your bank can confirm that the charge did not go through. We apologize for this inconvenience, but these security measures by the bank are beyond our control.
 
Can I order by telephone?
Sorry, to make sure your transaction is completely secure, we are not equipped to take credit card orders over the phone.
 
Why is my credit card charged as soon as I place an order?
Since you are requesting a custom piece of jewelry be made that does not exist until your order is received, your credit card is charged when your order is placed to cover the cost of the materials and labor needed to create it.
 
What type of payment methods do you accept?
We accept Master Charge, VISA, Discover and American Express credit cards via our web site or checks and money orders via mail. All credit card data is encrypted with an SSL certificate by Verisign when transferred, and your credit card number is not retained in a database. Since we do not handle or see you credit card information, we do not take orders by phone.
 
Can you re-use my information to initiate another order for me?
When you placed your first order, you were asked to create a password to log into your account. To log in, click on the My Account link in the upper right portion of the website, enter your email address as your user name and the password you created. If you have forgotten your password, click the Forgot Password link, enter your name and Zip code and it will be emailed to you. When you log into to your account. It will show your orders with the billing and shipping addresses. For security reasons, we do not retain your credit card number so you will have to resubmit it to finalize your new transaction.
 
Why won't my order recalculate?
If you are finding it difficult to recalculate the order after making your selection, please adjust your privacy settings under Tools/Internet Options. Lower the level of your privacy setting to medium. This will enable the cookies on the site to work.
 
Why won't my computer allow me to place an order?
If your computer is not allowing you to place an order on the web site, please upgrade your browser and try again. The web site is optimized for the browsers Internet Explorer 6.0 (or later) and Safari 2.0 (or later). If you are still having trouble, please clear out your shopping cart and revisit our website starting with a fresh browser session, or select the order by mail option after you click the recalculate button.
 
Why can't I print out a blank order form?
Due to the number of variables associated with each order, (including the cost of shipping which is calculated by the number of bracelets ordered and the distance shipped) we don't have a blank order form that can be completed by hand. You can however still use our web site to create a print out of your entered order and send this in with a check. To learn more about this, click on the question, How do I place my order by mail?
 
How long are the chains on the dog tags and pendants?
Standard dog tags come with 24" a stainless steel ball chain. Petite dog tags come with either a 19" gold tone or 30" stainless steel chain depending on the material ordered. Pendants come with a 27" stainless steel endless chain.
 
How do I place an order by mail?
If you would like to order by mail, select the bracelet(s) you would like on the web site, then click the recalculate button. When you click recalculate, the bottom of the Selections Page will change. Click the "Order By Mail" button in the "Order Type" section, complete the shipping information and click the "Order Button" at the bottom of the page.

This will instruct you to:
(1) View the Mail Order Form
(2) Print it out
(3) Double check your selections
(4) Send the Mail Order Form and your check to our address listed on the page
 
Can I order a bracelet with the name of the Police Dog that was lost at the WTC?
Yes, you can order a bracelet with Sirius, the name of the rescue dog that was lost on 9/11 at the World Trade Center by clicking here to a list of World Trade Center victims starting with the letter S. Sirius is at the top of this list.
 
Can I order a custom engraved bracelet?
To create a custom bracelet that is personally meaningful to you, click the "Customize" button in the top navigation of the web site or click here.

We can engrave up to 30 characters on each of three lines. If the engraving that you desire does not fit in the space provided on our site, please complete a Contact Us Form and we'll check your message against the size bracelet you are interested in to determine if it will fit it on the bracelet.
 
Do you offer discounts for large quantity orders?
If you are interested in ordering 25 or more of the same product with the exact same engraving, you are eligible to receive the discounts listed below. The discounts will display automatically when you place your order.

Do you offer a discount to family members?
Yes, we do offer a discount to immediate family members of the people listed on the Memorial Bracelets site. Personalized bracelets do not qualify for the immediate family member discount. If you are the mother, father, sister, brother, son or daughter of a person listed on this site and would like to receive the discount for bracelets or dog tags to be worn by you or up to 6 total members of the immediate family, please place your order then immediately complete a Contact Us Form. Make sure you include your Order ID Number (found on your Order Confirmation) so that we can credit your order for the difference between the price on the web site and the immediate family member discounted price.
 
How can I inquire about, or change, my order?
Fill out a Contact Us Form indicating your question about or revision to your order and make sure you include the order ID number found on your order confirmation. In the case of a revision, submit it as soon as possible, and we'll let you know if we were able to make the desired change prior to engraving.
 
How do I request a person's name be added or information modified?
If you would like to have a name modified or added to the site, please send us a Contact Us Form and email any links to web sites or documentation you have regarding the person's classification as a POW, MIA, KIA or VOT.
 
How can I have a name removed from the web site?
If you are an immediate family member of a person listed on the Memorial Bracelets web site, you may have his/her name removed by completing the Contact Us Form.
 
Do you guarantee delivery?
We guarantee the delivery of bracelets, dog tags and pendants shipped UPS. We also obtain a tracking number when you request shipment by First Class Mail, and we will use this number to work with the USPS to get your package to you, but since these packages are sometimes not traceable, delivery is not guaranteed. Shipments to APO and FPO addresses via US Mail have been very reliable, but are not guaranteed as the USPS tracking number only verifies that the postal service has delivered it to the military mail service.
 
What shipping options do you offer?
We offer UPS shipping Ground, Two Day Air and One Day Air. If you choose to ship UPS, you must supply a physical street address (not a PO Box). UPS shipments can be tracked and we guarantee delivery. Shipping One or Two Day Air does not shorten bracelet processing and engraving time. We also offer First Class Mail via the United States Postal Service. If you are having a bracelet sent to a P.O. Box, APO or FPO address, you must use this method. We do obtain a tracking number for packages sent by the USPS. This helps improve the chance that the package will be found if lost, but does not guarantee delivery. Although we have had tremendous success with the military postal system, packages sent to APO and FPO address are also not guaranteed, as the tracking by the USPS stops once the package is delivered to the military mail service.
 
How much does shipping cost?
All of the UPS shipping costs are calculated directly from the UPS web site based on weight and delivery is guaranteed. US Mail costs cover mailing your package first class and placing a tracking number on the package so can be traced thoughout the postal system. This helps improve delivery but does not guarantee it. Smaller orders are shipped in a white padded envelope and larger orders are shipped in a box. to cover the cost of the envelope/box and other shipping materials and expenses, a small handling fee is added to the cost of shipping. To utilize our site to calculate your shipping cost, enter the bracelet(s) you are interested in ordering and fill out the billing and shipping information. Click "Place Order" at the bottom of the screen. Your selection will be displayed including the Shipping Charge. You may either select "Place Order" to continue with your credit card information or go back to your order and edit your information.
 
When will my order be shipped?
Your order will ship within 20 - 25 days from the date your order is placed for processing and engraving. This time allows for your order to be processed, engraved, checked and packaged. Shipping via UPS 1 or 2 day air does not shorten processing or engraving time. Unfortunately, we can not accommodate "Rush" orders, but will make every attempt to deliver bracelets for special events.

To follow the progress of your purchase, please click on the Order Status link located in the upper right of the website and enter your email and password. You will receive an email when your order is shipped. If you specified your order be shipped via UPS you will receive a tracking number so you can follow its progress through the UPS web site. If you do not receive your package within 10 days after you receive the email that it has shipped, please send us a Contact Us Form immediately so the package can be traced.
 
I chose UPS Shipping. Why was my packaged delivered by my postal carrier?
Our packages shipped UPS are now being transferred to USPS for final delivery. In an effort to reduce your cost of shipping UPS, (because we get hit with minimum charges for such as small and light-weight product), we agreed to allow UPS to drop off at your post office. This is becoming a more common practice for small businesses such as ours. It is saving you about $3 - $4 on the cost of your UPS shipping because the delivery location is now considered a business address. UPS charges extra to deliver to a residential address, and applies an extra fuel charge depending on how far out your location is from a town or city. The USPS will deliver your package the next day they receive it from UPS.
 
How do I ship an order outside of the United States?
You can ship your order overseas using either of the following two methods:

1. Shipping United Parcel Service Worldwide Expedited Service, costs upward of $48.00 USA (just for freight)... but it is traceable and insured and we will guarantee delivery.

2. Shipping Airmail at a cost of about $6 - $9.00 is more reasonable, but it is neither traceable nor insured against loss or damage, therefore we can't guarantee delivery (but our last order to Australia did arrive just fine!).

If you are interested in placing an order to be shipped outside of the United States, please complete your order with the international address. The website will calculate the cost of shipping.
 
How do I ship to an APO/FPO Address?
To ship to US Military personnel overseas, enter the APO or FPO in the City Name field and the AE or AP as the State Abbreviation. You must also choose US Mail as the shipping method. Unfortunately, UPS does not ship to an APO or FPO. Your US Mail package will be traced, but delivery is not guaranteed because the tracking stops once the US postal services delivers it to the military base.
 
How do I send a gift to someone or ship to a different address?
Enter your name and information in the Billing Information fields and then enter the desired recipient and their address in the Shipping Information fields.
 
Why is it taking so long to arrive to my APO/FPO address?
When shipping to an APO/FPO address, the US Postal Service transfers delivery of the package to the Military Postal Service Agency (MPSA). Unfortunately, we are not able to track packages once they are received by the MPSA, and we have seen packages take anywhere from ten days to eight weeks to arrive to military personnel. Please be patient, and complete a Contact Us Form if you haven't received it within two months of the ship date.
 
What is the number on the end of my Vietnam POW/MIA bracelet?
The number listed on the end of your Vietnam POW/MIA bracelet and dog tag is the wall number (address) of your person's name on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C. (The Wall)

Bracelets were originally made with the home state (abbreviation) of record listed on one end. Once The Wall was built, it became standard to also engrave the wall number on the other end.
 
How long should I wear a POW/MIA Bracelet or dog tag?
Traditionally a POW/MIA bracelet or dog tag is worn until the person named on the bracelet or dog tag is accounted for or comes home. Whether it is for 28 days or 28 years, the bracelet or dog tag is worn to keep the memory of the imprisoned or missing person alive.
 
How do I send my POW/MIA bracelet to the family?
If the person on your POW/MIA bracelet or dog tag has been accounted for and you would like to send your bracelet or dog tag to the family, please do not contact them directly but use the following procedure:

1. Write a letter to the family of the POW/MIA making sure to include all your contact information in the event the family chooses to contact you.

2. Place the letter and the bracelet/dog tag in an envelope, seal it, add the proper postage, write your return address and simply address the envelope:

To The Family of (Soldier's Name)

3. Write a letter to the respective serviceman's Defense Prisoner and Missing Personnel Office (DPMO). In the letter, explain that the enclosed envelope contains a POW/MIA bracelet or dog tag, and request that it be forwarded to the family. If they have a current address on file, the DPMO will add the family's address to your envelope. There is no guarantee that this process will work. Many of the former POWs are no longer in contact with their service casualty office and this also applies to the families.

4. Place the DPMO request letter and the To The Family of envelope inside another envelope, seal it, add the proper postage, write your return address and mail it to the appropriate office based on the serviceman's military branch:

While we recognize the terrible loss suffered by families around the world, our site only lists those terrorist victims and heroes from the USA.

If there is someone you would like to remember with a Memorial Bracelet, you may utilize the "Customize" feature of our web site to create a bracelet or dog tag that is personally meaningful to you.

If you know of a United States citizen that is a Hero or Victim of Terrorism or a Vietnam War POW/MIA or KIA and is not listed on our site, please complete the Contact Us Form.

Do you guarantee your products? What is your return policy?
We guarantee your bracelet, dog tag or pendant will be engraved exactly as you indicated and in the material and size you chose, so please double check your order before entering your initials verifying what you are ordering is correct. When you receive your confirmation email, you see that something in your order is not what you intended, complete a Contact Us Form immediately. If we receive your email within 48 hours of your order, there is a chance we may be able to change it.

We guarantee the delivery of bracelets shipped UPS. We also obtain a tracking number when you request shipment by First Class Mail, and we will use this number to work with the USPS to get your package to you, but these packages are sometimes not traceable, delivery is not guaranteed. Shipments to APO and FPO addresses via US Mail are not guaranteed as the tracking number only verifies that the postal service has delivered it to the military base. Supportive Message bracelets and dog tags in new condition may be returned for a refund within 30 days from the date of shipment, but Personalized and Name bracelets and dog tags may not be returned. The cost of shipping and handling is not refundable. Send us a Contact Us Form indicating your desire to return a bracelet. How much is donated to charity and where is it donated?
Since Memorial Bracelets is not a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable entity, $2.00 of every bracelet, dog tag or pendant sold is donated to charitable organizations that have very low expenses or pass 100% of the proceeds to help the families of the heroes and victims of terrorism, or those still looking for missing or imprisoned soldiers.

Will I receive SPAM if I register for your newsletter?
When you submit an order or register for our newsletter, we do not share your email address with any other firm. Periodically, you may receive an email from us, but each email does contain an option allowing you to be removed from future emails.
 
How can I contact you if the answer to my question is not listed?
Please complete the Contact Us Form to reach us directly. This is the best way to get your question answered since we are not equipped to take phone calls. To receive the most complete response, please provide as much detail as possible when completing this form.
 
Why is there a notch cut out of the dog tag?
The most popular explanation for the notch is to place the tag securely in the teeth on a fallen soldier's body. This may have been done, but that was not the original purpose of the notch. "The Model 70 "Addressograph" was a pistol-type imprinting machine used by the Medical Department during WWII. Its function was to transfer the wounded soldier's identification information directly from his dog tags to his medical records. The notch in the dog tag would align and hold the tag securely in the "Addressograph". First the dog tag was inserted into the imprinting machine. After the medical document was aligned in the "Addressograph", the trigger on the imprinting machine was pulled and the information on the dog tag was transferred to the medical document through the ribbon of carbon paper located inside the "Addressograph".
