On October 15, 2003, three American diplomatic personnel were killed at
the Beit Hanoun junction in the Gaza Strip when a massive bomb
demolished an armor-plated jeep in a convoy carrying U.S. diplomats.
All three were employees of a defense contracting company, and were
assigned to the American Embassy in Tel Aviv.
Daniel Pearl was a Journalist with The Wall Street Journal working as the South Asia Bureau Chief in Pakistan. He was investigating the alleged links between Richard Reid (the "shoe bomber") and Al-Qaeda. On January 23, 2002 he was kidnapped and nine days later beheaded. On May 16th his remains were found. In March 2002, three men were charged and later convicted of the murder.
