
Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF)
On March 20, 2003, the United States military launched an operation to disarm the Ba'athist government led by Saddam Hussein in Iraq. This initiative, known as Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF), aimed to assist the Iraqi people in establishing their own government. Over the course of approximately seven and a half years, the conflict, referred to as the Iraq War, resulted in the loss of 3,502 American service members who were killed in action (KIA).
