On September 11, 2001, United Airlines Flight 93 with 38 passengers and 7 crew en route from Newark International Airport to San Francisco International Airport, was hijacked by four al-Qaeda affiliated terrorists. Several passengers mounted an assault against the hijackers and gained control of the aircraft, but the plane crashed in a field in Stonycreek Township of Somerset County, Pennsylvania killing all 45 people on board the airplane.
