On September 11, 2001, American Airlines Flight 11 with 81 passengers and 11 crew en route from Boston Logan International Airport to Los Angeles International Airport was hijacked by five al-Qaeda affiliated terrorists and deliberately flown into the north tower of the World Trade Center (WTC) in New York City. All 92 people on the plane were killed.
