On September 11, 2001, the twin towers of the (WTC) World Trade Center collapsed when American Airlines Flight 11 was hijacked by al-Qaeda affiliated terrorists and crashed into the north tower of the WTC, and United Airlines Flight 175 was hijacked by the same group of terrorists and crashed into the south tower of the World Trade Center. Approximately 2,750 people died in and around “Ground Zero” including FDNY fire fighters, and PAPD police officers.
The World Trade Center was attacked for the first time on February 26, 1993. The terrorist attack killed six people, including a pregnant woman, and injured more than a thousand.
On July 16, 2015 a man opened fire at an armed forces recruiting center and a Navy Reserve center in Chattanooga, TN. The apparent anti-military rampage left 4 Marines and 1 Navy Petty Officer dead.
On June 12, 2016, a 29-year-old male shooter killed 49 people and wounded 53 others in a terrorist attack/hate crime inside Pulse, a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida. The shooter swore allegiance to the leader of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Syria (ISIS). He was shot and killed by Orlando Police Department (OPD) officers after a three-hour standoff.
